(#SheForShe) Beyond the Social with Powerhouse Singer, Charity Vance

We feel incredibly fortunate to have Charity Vance on board our #sheforshe campaign, and to be sharing her feature interview + corresponding #sheforshe giveaway with all of you this week!

Not only is this power-house singer / song-writer incredibly talented, she's buzzing with contagious, natural energy and warmth, which bleeds into everything she does (and makes her the perfect role- model and #sheforshe advocate)!

Take one look at Charity's Instagram account, or any of her YouTube videos, and you can tell that she places HIGH value on her female relationships. Having left high school at 17 to pursue music in Nashville, and then moving to Los Angeles shortly after, Charity's learned a lot about herself, and has had to navigate her own way through the difficult music biz.

But this firecracker isn't slowing down anytime soon. Read on as Charity shares how she overcomes stress and self-doubt and finds the motivation to keep pushing forward (towards that super-star success)!

Which women have consistently supported and encouraged you throughout your life?

My mom has always supported me and I consider her my closest friend.

I have been super blessed by a handful of amazing and strong woman who have come into my life and provided wisdom and support.

Are there any women who have influenced your success / inspired you in some way? (could be someone you know or a public figure)

Since I was around seven years old I have been obsessed with Celine Dion. I know she’s an inspiration for most musicians because of her insanely incredible vocal abilities, but she inspires me in many ways, not just vocally. The way she carries herself with such grace even amidst the pressure of the limelight and the way she openly cares and loves for her family is beautiful!

What drives you to wake up every day and continue doing what you’re doing?

So many things push me to work harder than yesterday...from my passion for what I do to the people I work with. Also, I have a strong belief that the desires of our hearts are there for a very specific reason and that pushes me.

Are there any sacrifices you have had to make in order to be successful?

There have been many sacrifices that I have had to make along the way that have not been easy. For instance, leaving high school at 17 to be homeschooled my last year and half (in a semester) all so that I could move out of Arkansas and pursue my passion for music.

Another sacrifice would be moving away from my parents. I miss them far too often. As difficult as this and many other things have been, it would have been much harder to take the easy route and ignore the dream inside of me.

What advice would you have given to yourself when you were first starting out?

I feel like I’m learning exceptionally important things daily. Looking back I just hit the ground running and did anything and everything I could and I wouldn’t change much. I think just realizing that if something doesn’t work out, God has your best interest in mind. Even if you can’t completely see it in the moment. I always look back and am thankful certain things didn’t materialize (whether it was with certain management or opportunities falling through...etc). It’s not an easy thing to do, but exercising that trust in “things will work out the way God intends” for me would have saved some tears and heartbreak along the way.

How do you pull yourself out of bad moods or dark days?

It’s easy to get into a slump of sorts, but the best advice I’ve ever received about conquering it was from my daddy. He always encouraged me to get out and help someone and therefore take your eyes off yourself. And then you’ll usually have forgotten your problems before you know it.

What makes you feel beautiful?

I am a sucker for the newest hot pink lipstick, or an amazing keratin treatment for my hair, but nothing is more powerful than inner beauty. My inner beauty comes from Jesus’ love and forgiveness. He’s teaching me daily what real beauty really is.

How have you (or do you) handle self-doubt?

Self doubt is a difficult thing, and I struggle with it just like everyone does. But when self doubt comes to me, I might fall in temporarily but at the end of the day I (we) don’t have time for self- doubt. It’s just a distraction from reaching your goals and dreams.

When faced with negativity, are there certain techniques that help you come out on top? (i.e. going of a run, journaling, personal mantras)

Quiet time is a seriously important thing for my personal sanity. (lolz) It’s really important for me to remember to pray. Praying to Jesus about anything or anyone, and also seeking his voice throughout the day - whether it be through a friend, or a scripture verse in the Bible. Praying on my runs sometimes or before bed always helps my perspective shift on whatever I’m going through.

Do you experience fear? If so, how do you handle it?

Absolutely! Fear of success and even fear of failure are two totally real things I face sometimes. I always go back to the belief in something bigger than myself. Also, knowing that fear is real but not worthy of my energy I make the decision NOT to fear. It’s not easy, but it's vital to avoid the downward spiral of fear.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?

OoOoOo There are so many though!! Can I just pick a Disney princess to be? Ha! Naw, I’d go with flying. <3

What is advice can you can give to women who are trying to find their "purpose" in life?

Go after your dreams and don’t be afraid to love others.

Do it.

Your purpose will find you along the way.

If you could “nominate” an outstanding woman who has encouraged or inspired you...who would it be, and why?

Oh dear…I have so many women who have pushed me along the way!! But I will have to go with my California mom, Leesa B., who isn’t afraid to be brutally honest with me and pray for me at any time of day or night. She loves so many people on such a deep level and never meets a stranger. She has chased her dreams fearlessly and she’s had many dreams; Leesa continually inspires and encourages me in this difficult yet amazing city of L.A.!

THANK YOU FOR THE INSPIRATION CHARITY!
